This is a very good design which reminds me of not only W-10 but also my own Athos design.

Origami OS is only a concept system.

Too flat. Needs more depth. Modern PCs can handle it.

Depth only looks good with real 3D. Not the fake stuff that we used to do in the past. Not to mention interfaces are about simplicity and functionality, not adornments. Hopefully my Smartpaper interface will be a fully 3D GUI but I can't promisse you that it will be heavily adorned. It will mostly rely on white and transparent things, very similar to the aesthetics of the Apple A1048 keyboard... Don't expect anything golden or plasticky. My intention with Smartpaper is to provide an aesthetic of blocks of glass and white ceramic.

Flat design is harsh on the eyes. Why do you think Metro is widely unpopular? If you're looking for something minimalistic, try drawing inspiration from OS X "El Capitan".

But OS X El Capitan is flat too. It just uses more gradients and stuff. But it is still flat, in a sense that it does not have rounded design. In a sense that if it was a real object it would be a more straight looking thing because let's be honest... Rounded irregular plasticky design (even on real objects) is as tacky as golden smartphones, super tacky really. But worry not. Smartpaper is actually Fully 3D and on top of that it is an augmented reality interface. Instead of windows and stuff. It will have glass and white ceramic blocks and it will also have an interaction with real paper for certain tasks reason why it is called Smartpaper. The goal of Smartpaper is to make a desktop which has no monitor. Instead of a monitor it will be a VR headset for now and it will also be compatible with Hololens but in the future maybe holograms might appear and so people are going to use these without having to wear anything. So yeah Smartpaper is a very high-end thing. It is nearly sci-fi stuff actually. But don't expect it to have the tacky design of an MP3 from the early 2000s because it won't. The closest things in appearance to it are the Apple A 1048 keyboard and the old Gamecube's interface which was a cube thingy. However Smartpaper will have blocks with sharp edges, not rounded edges ok? It will be anti-aliased x16 though. One of my ideas is that in a distant future it would actually temporarily materialize real objects for users to interact with. Unfourtunately we need the technology from the world of Rockman.EXE such as dimensional areas to make that true.

As far as realism is concerned... The objects of Smartpaper are going to look pretty much real. In fact didn't I tell you already that for me it would be ideal to temporarily materialize the damn things? So yeah it wouldn't even be a graphic at this point but a real physical object that temporarily appears out of nowhere. Just like how it happens in Rockman.EXE Axess with all the dimensional areas and stuff. It will however be a very minimalistic, almost brute thing, it won't bear any resembleance to old tacky-ass MP3s or car panels which were often rounded black plastic with flashy lights.

Here's an example of something that was minimal and easy on system resources, yet looked decent: www.digibarn.com/collections/s…

I think Windows 95 didn't look good nor bad simply tasteless. I am trying to think of a thing that has more aesthetic bling to it without being tacky as fuck like Windows Xp which was also the most heavy interface Microsoft ever made (Yes Luna is in fact considerably heavier than Aero because Aero has hardware acceleration, it takes advantage of the graphics processor instead of being entirely software rendered like Luna however Aero is not compatible with certain applications that make use of the graphics card, that is why when playing some games the interface would shift to the software render mode which looked almost as ugly as Luna). I am definitely not a nostalgic person when it comes to making new things. You criticized modern interfaces for being flat and not having any sort of fake depth to it. But honestly I hate fake depth and software rendered interfaces, for me it's either true 3D or true 2D and always taking advantage of the graphics processor. But worry not. Smartpaper will have TRUE depth, it will be an actual 3D polygon based interface prototype. And I am hoping to please fans of the Apple A1048 keyboard. Here is a picture of what the A1048 looks like: uk.webuy.com/product_images/Co…
If that look pleases you. You may or may not like what Smartpaper will look like. However you see I don't have oldschool Windows 95 fans in mind. I want to make what I personally think looks good and the way it works is very different from what you are used to. So the chances of you liking it are slim. However still it is a full 3D interface and you can't say that it's lazy because just the effort to think of the whole concept, how it works, the layouts and everything is a lot of work. Smartpaper will be something unprecedented, it won't be based on any previous interfaces available in the market. Also Smartpaper is not used with mouse or touchscreens. It will be based on a high resolution Close Range Primesense device. And ultrasound is going to be used to provide haptic feedback so that the user will feel like he is holding something. In essence it is something that would work perfectly with holograms but right now they are not available so it will be used with a VR headset or Microsoft's Hololens.
